MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to powering Ghana’s digital ambitions and investing in initiatives that create opportunity and improve lives, as the company celebrates its 30th anniversary in Ghana.

Speaking at a Media and Stakeholder Engagement in Takoradi, the Chief Internal Audit and  Forensic Officer at MTN Ghana, Michael Gbewonyo stated that this year’s theme, ’30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,’ means so much to the company. Indicating that “every mile we have covered was powered by our customers, partners, communities, employees, and stakeholders”.

He narrated that “thirty years ago, a phone call from Takoradi to Cape Coast was an event. You waited, watched the clock and counted every minute. Today, a business owner in Takoradi can meet a client in Accra without leaving her shop. A trader can confirm a Mobile Money payment in seconds.. A student at the University of Cape Coast can access learning resources online with just a few taps. What was once exceptional is now effortless. That is Ghana’s transformation story.”

Mr Gbewonyo thanked all for the role they had played in the company’s success and for the trust they continue to place in MTN Ghana.

“Progress is not only about growth. It is about trust. As we launch new services, expand our reach and serve more customers, we do so responsibly, transparently and with our customers at the centre”, he emphasized.

Michael Gbewonyo disclosed that MTN Ghana contribute roughly 6% of the country’s total tax revenue. “We are helping to power Ghana’s digital ambitions. And we keep investing in initiatives that create opportunity and improve lives”.

He touched on MTN Ghana Foundation, and said thousands of young people had received scholarships and support to reach their dreams. “In communities across the Western and Central Regions and beyond, our investments in health, education and economic empowerment are changing lives every day”.

“We are proud of these achievements, not because of the size of our business, but because of the impact we have made together. They demonstrate our commitment to being more than a telecommunications company. They reflect our belief that MTN is a force for good and a meaningful partner in Ghana’s nation-building journey”, he stressed.

Mr Gbewonyo further thanked the media and stakeholders across the Western and Central Regions for highlighting the issues that matter and for holding the company to account with honest feedback.

A section of journalists at the programme were awarded as part of MTN Ghana’s 30years anniversary.
