Member of Parliament(MP), for Mfantsman Constituency, Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin has resolved the permanent Saltpond hospital water crisis, as he hands over an ultra modern water project to the hospital to serve patients and staff.
Handing over the project to the hospital authority, Dr. Prince Arhin announced that during his campaign to the hospital, he realized that patients had to buy bags of sachet water before they got treatment.
In view of this, he promised to resolve the water crisis in Mfantsman and Saltpond hospital as well, if he had the opportunity to serve the people of Mfantsman.
“I remember before becoming a member of parliament, nine(9) months into my elections this whole Municipality was confronted with water crisis at a point that any time we visited Saltpond hospital, patients were told to go and buy bags of sachet water before they got treatment”.
The MP stated this when he together with the Municipal Chief Executive of Mfantsman, Mr. Eric Stanley Acquah and the Founder of the Mfantsiman Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA), Ernest De-Graft Egyir stormed Saltpond Hospital to commission the water project and a 10-seater toilet facility at the hospital to improve sanitation in the area.
Dr. Prince Arhin again realised that Saltpond hospital had about 50 casual workers that were not on their payroll and due to that Saltpond hospital’s little IGF generated internally was being used to cater for staff compensation and promised to resolve that as soon as possible.
Dr. Prince Arhin spearheads major sanitation and water intervention for Mankessim, Saltpond and Hini to end water crisis and open defecation in the Mfantsman constituency.
On his part, the Medical Superintendent of the Saltpond Government Hospital, Dr. John Moses Wereku said Saltpond hospital which is the second oldest hospital in the country had serious water crisis and applauded the Member of Parliament for Mfantsman, Dr. Prince Arhin for restoring the dignity of the hospital.
“Two(2) years ago when we had an outbreak of cholera, it became a very big challenge that the hospital had to spend more than GH50,000 to get water for the staff and patients. So this water project and the mechanised borehole are the first of its kind in the Saltpond Municipal hospital”, he stressed.
Dr. Moses Wereku said Saltpond Municipal Hospital serve thousands of patients, relatives but inadequate toilet facilities and inconsistent water supply had been one of their biggest challenges and hoped the MP’s provision of water project would go a long way to help the staff to improve health delivery in the Central Region and Ghana as whole.
A development oriented organization for Mfantsman Saltpond, Mfantsiman Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA) who witnessed the handing over ceremony earlier provided 50,000-litre automated water supply to the same facility.
The Founder of MSDA, Mr. Ernest De-Graft Egyir who witnessed the ceremony appealed to the health authorities at the beneficiary facility to make sure the facility is well maintained.
