A family at Nuanua Asubone in the Assin South District of the Central Region is outraged over the missing corpse of their relative which was deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital Mortuary in Assin Fosu for preservation.
The final funeral rite of the 57-year-old deceased, Linda Obiri Akufo was arranged to be held on Saturday and Sunday, 1st and 2nd October, 2022, respectively.
But astonishingly, authorities of St. Francis Xavier Hospital could not provide the corpse for the family when the family was ready for the body.
The phenomenon, which did not sit well with the family, triggered anger from the relatives who nearly marred activities of the hospital and it took the intervention of the police to calm tempers down.
The husband of the deceased, Nana Atua ‘I’, who doubles as the Ankobiahene of Nunua Asubone, told Rich Fm and Angel Fm/TV Reporter Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, that all the necessary arrangement, including food and drinks had been made, only to be told the body could not be found.
“The family, therefore, had no option than to call off the funeral and sympathizers who had traveled from the length and breadth of the country to mourn were disappointed”.
Meanwhile, the Assemblymember of Assin Adiembra Electoral Area, Mr. George Oliver Gyimah said “after a series of engagement with the hospital management, the facility authorities pleaded for two weeks to search for the body”.
Also, the Sister In-Charge of the St. Francis Xavier Hospital, Georgina Donzing implored the public to keep trusting them, “though it’s a human institution and such things could happen once a while, stringent measures are in place to ensure it does not happen at all”.
