Two students from the Twifo Praso Senior High School are in police custody, following a suspected lynching of a spiritualist in the area.
They were arrested by the police for allegedly mobilising their colleagues to lynch a spiritualist, identified as Abdul Latif, who had accused one of them of stealing a mobile phone, belonging to a junior student.
The junior student’s phone had gone missing and the students reportedly sought the intervention of the spiritualist to help them identify the thief.
When the spiritualist accused one of the students of the theft, the accused reportedly mobilised his gang numbering about ten and attacked Abdul Latif and subjected him to severe beating until he died.
They then dragged his body into a bush and covered it with weeds.
The police recovered the body and deposited it at the Twifo Praso Government Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Graphic Online’s Central Regional correspondent, Shirley Asiedu Addo reports that the incident sparked outrage among some youth in Twifo Praso, who planned to storm the school’s campus for revenge.
But a timely intervention by the police prevented violence.
