Cybersecurity Awareness: MTN Ghana Trains Staff to be Cybersecurity Conscious

As part of the Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a staff awareness campaign has been organized at the MTN Takoradi office to educate staff on how to be cyber-smart and safe.

Panelists took turns explaining how staff could be cybersecurity conscious, in order to protect themselves and that of the company against cyber threats.

Mr. Prince Owusu Nyarko, MTN Ghana’s Regional Senior Manager for South West, advised that “security starts with us, and therefore, we should be cyber-conscious”.

He emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the company’s cybersecurity training, noting that “we can also educate our families”.

He added, “when family and friends fall victim to cyber threats, they will surely contact us for support, and that cybersecurity should not be a secret agenda”.

Maxwell Acquah is the Acting Regional Technical Manager (Network Group). He advised  the staff to take advantage of the quarterly prioritized training and interactive seminars  by MTN Ghana and get equipped with the necessary tools needed to enhance their skills.

He further recommended reinforcing learning through monthly tips, awareness newsletters, and themed circulars that place prominence on security.

Additionally, he mentioned that to drive accountability, staff should use the ‘Policy Acceptance Declaration Portal’, where employees formally acknowledge their understanding of key policies like Acceptable Use and Group Information Security.

“This promotes compliance and reinforces personal responsibility”.

Mr Acquah concluded that ultimately, “it’s about making cybersecurity relatable, consistent, and actionable, so that employees see it not as a policy, but as a shared responsibility”.

Participants were taken through topics such as; Strategies to help employees better understand cybersecurity policies and procedures ,  Human Behavior influencing cybersecurity outcomes, and Guidelines to stay safe and responsible regarding digital activities among others.
