The Assin Fosu District Court has sentenced two friends, Emmanuel Aidoo and Romeo Odei Martin, both 20 years old and mechanics to two years in prison for stealing a motorbike at Assin Endwa in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

They both pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing and conspiracy.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo explained to the court presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, that “the complainant, Dickson Dovor, is a farmer and resident of Assin Endwa, whereas the convicts Emmanuel Aidoo and Romeo Odei Martin are motor mechanics at Cape Coast”.

Chief Inspector Anyongo indicated that the complainant parked his Suzuki motorbike, valued at Gh¢13,000 in his corridor on October 28, 2024 at about 7:30 pm.

However, when he woke up the next morning, he could not trace the whereabouts of his motorbike.

A complaint was officially made at the Assin Akonfudi police station, and an investigation was initiated into the matter.

On the same day, the police received an information that a Suzuki Motorbike had been intercepted by the police personnel led by Inspector Iddrisu Salifu at the Assin Anyinabrim police snap-check.

Chief Inspector Anyongo further explained, that the police, upon receiving the information together with the complainant, swiftly moved to Anyinabrim Police Station with the documents covering the motorbike.

During inspection, it was confirmed that the said motorbike belonged to the complainant, Dovor.

The convicts, Emmanuel Aidoo, and his accomplice, Romeo Odei Martin, together with the motorbike, were handed over to the Assin Akonfudi Police for further investigation, after photographs were taken for evidential purposes.

During interrogation, both convicts admitted to the offense in their respective investigations’ caution statements and said that both played a diverse role in the theft.

Emmanuel Aidoo, shockingly claimed that his daughter was sick and he had no money on him to take care of her.

He spotted the motorbike in the corridors of the complainant during a visit to his grandmother at Assin Endwa on October 25.

He then went back to Cape Coast and discussed it with his friend Romeo Odei Martin to assist him to steal the motorbike and use it for commercial “Okada” service so he could use the proceeds to take care of his sick daughter.

Chief Inspector Gilbert Anyongo disclosed that after they succeeded in stealing the motor, they disconnected and reconnected some cables and managed to start the motorbike without the ignition key.

However, their plan was foiled when police intercepted the motorbike at the Assin Anyinabrim Police Snap Check, while they were on their way back to Cape Coast.
