The African Media Globe has expressed grave concern over the recurring nature of xenophobic violence in South Africa.
African Media Globe, a Pan-African media and advocacy platform committed to promoting African unity, peace, human rights, and development across the continent.
The media platform has thus called on the government of South Africa to take immediate and decisive measures to protect all African migrants and foreign nationals residing within its borders.
A statement issued and signed by the Secretary General of the group, Charles Sylvanus Boye, strongly condemned the recent acts of xenophobic violence and intimidation against other African nationals in South Africa.
“These disturbing attacks not only threaten the lives, dignity, and livelihoods of innocent African citizens, but also undermine the spirit of African solidarity and brotherliness upon which the continent was built. No African should feel unsafe or unwelcome in another African country”, the statement underscored.
The statement further called on the African Union, regional bodies, civil society organizations, and all African leaders to urgently intervene and address the growing crisis before more innocent lives were lost.
“Silence and inaction will only embolden further violence and division among African people. Africa’s strength lies in its unity. At a time when the continent is striving for economic integration, regional cooperation, and free movement through initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), xenophobia stands as a dangerous setback to the African dream”.
The African Media Globe urged all Africans to reject hate, violence, discrimination, and tribal or national divisions.
“We encourage peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and mutual respect among all Africans regardless of nationality. We stand in solidarity with all victims affected by these unfortunate incidents and call for justice, accountability, and lasting solution to prevent future occurrences.
