Hundred and twenty businesses benefit from MTN Ghana Foundation’s funding programme

In its bid to empower small and medium businesses across the country, MTN Ghana Foundation has embarked on a five-year soft loan disbursement project to support upcoming businesses with great innovations.

The project, which was started last year (2023), has so far benefited about a hundred and twenty businesses in the Ashanti, Western and the Greater Accra regions.

Businesses were given the leverage to pitch their business ideas and the ones with Innovative ideas were awarded a loan of up to twenty thousand Ghana cedis each to support their businesses.

At one of such business pitching sessions in Cape Coast to kick start the second phase of the project, the Economic Empowerment Advisor at the MTN Ghana Foundation, Cynthia Mills indicated the project sought to transform businesses.

“The second phase of the project will cover Central, Eastern and Volta regions and it seeks to empower women, Youth and differently abled persons”.

The massively participated event in Cape Coast attracted participants  from Kasoa, Ekumfi, Mankessim, Cape Coast and Elmina among other communities in the Central Region.

Businesses that were pitched were in the areas of fishing, gari processing, Innovative ways of packaging ‘shito’, palmoil and palm fruit for soups among others.

Highly performed businesses would be supported with loans from MTN Ghana Foundation to boost their businesses.

Cynthia Mills maintained that the Foundation hoped to transform a number of Small and Medium Enterprises across the country to enhance the economic wellbeing of the country.

Stressing; “the Foundation is doing this to empower businesses especially in the Agro business sector amongst other food processing chain”.

The Economic Empowerment Advisor at the MTN Ghana Foundation advised the youth and all who are into innovative businesses to not lose hope, especially those who were not picked for the project.

Adding, it would certainly get to their turn.
