At least, five people were confirmed dead and one injured in a motor accident involving Sprinter bus, Man Diesel Articulated Truck and Howo Tipper truck with registration numbers; GR6081-18, GW5416-24 and GB1592-22 respectively.
Scores of people are however feared dead in the fatal accident, which occurred at Ataabadze junction near Elmina in the Central Region this (Sunday 25th August) morning.
According to information gathered from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Sprinter bus was traveling from Cape Coast towards Western Region, while the two other trucks were traveling in the opposite direction, when they crushed.
The total number of people in the bus was not readily available at the time of filing the report but the Public Relations Officer for GNFS in the Central Region, DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu indicated that a number of casualties were transported to the hospital before the arrival of the rescue team.
“The Ghana National Fire Service received the distress call at 6:49 am reporting the incident and the rescue team from the Central Regional Headquarters was quickly dispatched to the scene”.
“The rescue team extricated the driver, and three passengers whom were confirmed dead at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital on arrival with one person alive”.
The team also met two bodies on the ground covered with cloth on their arrival at the scene, according to the GNFS.
The police have however started investigation into the incident.
