Elmina: Defilement Suspect allegedly commits suicide in police cells

A suspect who was arrested for defiling his 11 year-old step-daughter, has hanged himself to death in the Agyeikrom police cells in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem municipality of the Central Region.
According to the Public Relations Unit of the Central Regional Police Command, “suspect Emmanuel Cudjoe, 38 years of age, was arrested on 10/5/2026 at 5:00 am, for defiling his 11 year-old step-daughter. He hanged himself the same day in the cells with a thin cloth he removed from the edge of the blanket he slept on”.
“On receipt of the information, the Elmina District Police command and the Regional Crime scene Management team proceeded to the AgyeiKrom police station. The officers visited the cells and found the suspect hanged against the wall. It was observed that there were no marks of violence on the body of the suspect”, police said.
“The ligature was observed firmly fastened around the neck”, police disclosed.
“The deceased Emmanuel Cudjoe was a carpenter and a native of Ayensudo, a suburb of Elmina in the KEEA municipality”.
The police further stated that the scene was processed by the Crime Scene Management team, and the body was removed and sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where the suspect was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the same facility’s morgue for preservation, awaiting autopsy.
The police pointed out that relatives of the deceased were informed of the incident.
The case is under investigation.
