MTN Ghana has presented a cheque for GHC 15,000, airtime and a drink hamper towards this year’s Aboakyer Festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Effutu Traditional Area in the Central Region of Ghana.
The Aboakyer festival is climaxed on the first Saturday of May by the Effutu’s of Winneba.
It is an ancient rite of animal sacrifice to the god ‘Otu’ to celebrate the safe migration from the ancient western Sudan to their present home.
MTN Ghana has been part of this Festival through the donation of assorted items for decades.
As part of activities to mark this year’s Aboakyer Festival, MTN Ghana again called on ‘Nananom’ to make a donation to the Traditional Council.
The South-west Manager for MTN Ghana, Prince Owusu Nyarko, who led the delegation indicated that “MTN as an African Company, knows the importance of Culture and as such festivals, hence, the company’s commitment towards development in diversity”.
He noted the donation amongst other assistance that MTN was providing was to re-establish the company’s relationship with ‘Nananom’.
The Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey thanked MTN for the kind gesture.
He acknowledged MTN’s contribution towards the Festival every year and hoped the already established relationship between the community and the Company would continue to thrive.
