Take your vehicle as your heartbeat not a death weapon- Police to commercial drivers

The Central Regional Officer in charge of the Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) Abraham Inkoom has appealed to drivers especially commercial drivers to take their vehicles as their heartbeat and not a death weapon.

He explained, that would help to reduce the carnage on the roads especially, during the Christmas festivities.

ASP Inkoom made this passionate appeal when he met the Cape Coast branch of the co-operative Transport Union at Pedu as part of a sensitization programme for drivers to ensure discipline and reduce motor accidents on the roads.

He promised to work tirelessly with the commercial drivers to set a record of accident free festivities.

ASP Inkoom called on drivers to avoid wrongful overtaking, ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles, desist from unnecessary arguments while driving, avoid making phone calls while driving as well as overspeeding.

He charged the drivers to stop offering money to police officers on the roadside but rather support the Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service’ bid to get ride of corruption in the Institution.

“Giving police officers money for the crime you have not committed encourages the police to do more, so there is no need to dip your hands in your pocket and bribe police officers for a crime you did not commit”,  ASP Inkoom stressed.

According to him, “Police charge office is not meant for the police  personnel only and also not for any special people so drivers have every right to file against any police officer who will offend them”.

On his part, Mr. Bernard Shaw, a Driver who spoke to Mynewsgh.com reporter Hajia Asana Gordon after the sensitization commended the Police Transport Unit for the education.
