MTN Ghana Foundation calls for Community Involvement in Maintenance of Projects

By GEORGINA APPIAH

The Board Chairman of MTN Ghana Foundation, Professor Franklyn Manu is worried that some community projects by the Foundation are not well maintained, thus the beneficiary communities fail to take proper care of the facilities.

He has therefore called for a consistent strategy, in a bid to ensure the sustainability of the Foundation’s projects.

Professor Franklyn Manu stated that most of the successful projects were due to the fact that communities were involved and interested.

“Most people promise to take care of the projects but later you would go there to see that the project has not been attended to and the equipment is broken down so those are the things we have to guard against”, the MTN Ghana Foundation Board Chairman lamented.

Professor Manu was speaking during MTN Ghana’s Bright Conversations on Wednesday, 27th August, 2025.

MTN Ghana Foundation was established in the year 2007 to see to the social responsibilities of the company.

Its commitment is centered on the socio-economic development of the country, hence, the rollout of social interventions across Ghana.

Professor Manu called for integration between the foundation and the local authority in a bid to ensure the sustainability of the foundation’s project

“There should be an integration between us and some of the local authorities to see where we fit in their plans because it’s almost like we are an outside entity so we need to  find a way to get them all involved”, he underscored.

The MTN Ghana Foundation Board Chairman disclosed that the company had committed huge sums of money into the MTN Ghana Foundation’s projects.

He however hoped beneficiary communities would show interest in the established projects and help to maintain them.
