Trouble brews in Assin South NDC…….As defeated aspirant threatens to go independent

The defeated NDC parliamentary aspirant for the Assin South constituency, Nicholas Nana Baffoe has announced his decision to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate for the area in the 2024 general elections, days after the NDC primaries.
Mr. Baffoe lost to his closest contender, Kofi Baidoo after he polled 504 votes against his contender’s 538 votes on Saturday, May 13, 2023 NDC primary in Assin South.
His agitations stemmed from what he described as a war waged against him by the regional party executives who he alleged openly campaigned for his defeat.
The defeated NDC aspirant believed he would have won the primary hands down, if the regional party executives had remained neutral before and during the election.
“Would they have the moral right to reconcile with me whiles they knew they did not stay neutral? No, clearly, Assin South NDC is not ready for unity. I will go independent. An official announcement will be made on Saturday”, he stated on Assin Fosu-based Rich Fm as he shared his frustration on the FM station’s Morning Show monitored by gnewsprime.com.
He reiterated the unity between himself and his contender, saying, they were friends and prior to the primaries, both assured themselves of working together no matter the outcome.
“But the regional executives failed to exercise their monitoring responsibility with absolute neutrality as the law requires”.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, reacting to the allegations entreated Mr Baffoe to use the laid down procedures provided by the party to address his grievances.
