A fatal road accident at Komenda Asamasa in the KEEA municipality of the Central Region on Monday evening, left seven people dead and eighteen (18) others injured.
According to the Communication Unit of the Central Regional Fire Service, “at 7:25 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, the Komenda Fire Station responded to a fatal road traffic accident at Komenda Asamasa along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway”.
The accident occurred, when a Sprinter Bus (GS 6705-21) travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi, and a Man Diesel Truck (GS 8394 Y) travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast collided.
“GNFS rescuers arrived promptly and extricated six (6) trapped victims from the Sprinter bus, which had veered into a nearby bush. All six (6) were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital”, while another casualty (female) who had earlier been taken to the same Hospital was also pronounced dead, bringing the total fatalities to seven (7)”.
The six (6) deceased,extricated by GNFS comprised three (3) females, including a pregnant woman, one (1) baby, and three (3) males.

Additionally, the Regional Communication Unit of the GNFS said “eighteen (18) people who sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS rescue team are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital”.
Eyewitnesses accounts Indicated that the Man Diesel truck travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast lost control while overtaking another vehicle and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus travelling in the opposite direction.
According to the GNFS, after the rescue operation, GNFS personnel cleared debris from the roadway to restore the free flow of traffic and ensure safety at the accident scene.
