The Ghana Police Service has interdicted two police officers, Lance Corporal Philimon Agbevem and Lance Corporal Peter Gbadagbo, following allegations of extortion from a motor pillion rider in Accra.

The incident, which reportedly took place on 22 July 2024, came to light after a video detailing the alleged misconduct circulated widely on social media.

In the video, the pillion rider accused the two officers, who were on visibility duty, of torturing him and extorting a sum of GHS 3,820.

The rider claimed that despite reporting the incident to the Cantonments Police Station, no action was taken, prompting him to call for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Ghana Police Service responded by placing the officers under interdiction on 9 August 2024, and in a statement assured the public that they will be subjected to due legal processes. The service reiterated its commitment to upholding justice and addressing any misconduct within its ranks.

The case is currently under investigation, with the two officers assisting in the inquiries. The police service has urged the public to remain confident in its efforts to maintain transparency and accountability in such matters.
