Police Arrest 37 Motor Riders Over Fatal Accidents

Police in Assin Fosu in the Central Region of Ghana have arrested about twenty-five motor riders and twelve tricycle riders among others over recent fatal accidents in the area.

The riders who were mainly young people were arrested at separate locations during a swoop by the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) in the Assin Fosu Municipality.

Some of the offences included riding  unregistered motorbikes, riding without a helmet, license, and insurance.

According to the Divisional  MTTD commander, ASP Kwabena Oduro Boateng, “most fatal accidents occurring in the area are caused by motorbike riders who wrongfully overtake cars or over speed without caution, thereby colliding with vehicles”.

“The riders do not have access to a radio to enable them to benefit from the sensitization programmes we  usually conduct on various radio stations so they always do the wrong things”.

ASP Kwabena Oduro Boateng noted that “those arrested will be arraigned before the Assin Fosu court to face the full rigours of the law”.

He however cautioned recalcitrant motor riders to desist from riding unregistered motorbikes and causing road traffic offences.
