The government of Ghana in collaboration with the Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA) has supported Rice Farmers in the Assin North District of the Central Region with farm equipment to enhance rice production.

The machinery handed over to the farmers included; reaper binder combined harvesters, rice threshers, power tillers and accessories, rice winnowers, and water pumps.

The District Chief Executive Officer of the Assin North District, Charles Ohene Andoh speaking at Assin Breku noted that five districts of the Central Region, namely; Gomoa East, Assin Fosu, Assin North, Assin South, and Twifo Att-Mokwa were currently benefitting from the project.

According to him, “it is expected that the equipment will ease the laborious work involved in rice farming for the farmers in the five beneficiary districts and that the gesture affirms the government’s commitment to improving the rice value chain in the area”.

Meanwhile, the beneficiary farmers speaking with Rich Fm and Angel FM/TV Reporter Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack expressed their joy over the gesture and indicated that they would now move from manpower farming to a mechanised form of farming.

The Assin North District Agric Director, Mr. Joseph Kwabena Haizel used the opportunity to advise the youth in the area to go into the farming business since it has become lucrative.
