The annual blood donation exercise held during Valentine’s season has grown to become an essential support system for the nation, according to the telecom giant.

“Since 2011, MTN Ghana has successfully collected 26,620 units of blood, which  were distributed to hospitals such as Effia Nkwanta Government Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Bogoso Government Hospital, Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital, and regional blood banks across the country”.

In Central Region, the blood donation event is being held at the Academy of Christ The King Senior High School, Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School and Winneba Nursing College.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the exercise at the Academy of Christ The King in Cape Coast, the Economic Empowerment Advisor for the MTN Ghana Foundation, Cynthia Mills hoped the expected units of blood would be exceeded.

She appealed to Ghanaians to donate blood to support a good course and to fill the blood banks in the country.

GnewsPrime observed that the blood donors, who were mainly students were eager to donate their blood to support the project and to also express love to people in need in this season of love.

The Human Resource Manager for MTN at the Southern Ghana, Regina Arkaifie disclosed that blood collected from the central Region would be sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the Trauma Hospital in Winneba.

Samuel Odua Quarmyne With the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Blood Bank, described MTN Ghana as an Archangel to the Blood Bank from 2014 till date.

He revealed the blood situation in the blood bank was not encouraging, since there was not enough blood left at the bank to support patients.
