NADMO Appeals for Relief Assistance for Disaster Victims in Central Region

The Central Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says tragic disasters in recent times have left several families in the region displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods disrupted.
The Central Regional Director of NADMO, Mr Kwesi Dawood, addressing the media in Cape Coast on Tuesday (24th June, 2025), concerning the widespread destruction, appealed to institutions, agencies, CSOs, Faith Based Organizations and Philanthropists among others to come to the aid of the disaster victims to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts by Government through NADMO.
“Critical Needs Identified are: Food supplies and potable water, Temporary shelter and emergency accommodation, Medical services and essential health items, Clothing and bedding materials”.
Also needed, according to the NADMO Director are; Psychosocial support, trauma counseling and Financial support to assist displaced and affected families.
He disclosed that ”the Region has recorded floods and fires affecting a total of four thousand six hundred and thirty-six (4,636) victims in the past few weeks”.
“Affected areas include: Awutu Senya East, Gomoa East, Awutu Senya West, Effutu, Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abrem, Twifo Atti Morkwaa, Hemang Lower Denkyira, Agona West, Asikuma/Odoben/Brakwa, Agona East and Cape Coast”.
“Communities and suburbs which were severely affected in the Cape Coast Metropolis include; London Bridge, Zion, Gyegyaano, OLA Madina, Aquarium, Siwdu Estate, Antem, Ntsin, Amamoma, Ekon, and Brofoyedur. The rest are; Kitsiwdo, Mempeasɛm, Nkanfoa, 3rd Ridge, Ayensu/Kwaprow, Adisadel(church of Christ school), Pedu and North Ola”.
The Regional NADMO Director emphasized that numerous households had lost their homes, belongings, and sources of income
“Vulnerable persons, including children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, are in urgent need of care”, he stressed.
Mr Kwesi Dawood again indicated that the emotional and psychological toll of the disaster had been severe, hence, the appeal for donation of cash, relief items, or logistical assistance to help meet the pressing needs.
He acknowledged, that the timely intervention for the affected, would restore hope and dignity to rebuild their lives.

He further appreciated all agencies, institutions, and individuals who played critical roles in responding to the disaster incident that occurred over the weekend as well as in the previous weekend throughout the Region.

• The Ghana Police Service, for its swift mobilization, crowd control, protection and maintenance of public safety and order during the operation.
• The Ghana National Fire Service, for their timely deployment, technical support, and contribution to search & rescue and emergency response efforts.
• The NADMO Rescue Team, and all NADMO Officers who remained on-site until late into the night, demonstrating admirable dedication and professionalism in executing their duties.
• The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) and the Honourable Mayor, for providing institutional leadership, logistical support, and effective coordination throughout the emergency.
