Performance Management System: Non performing MMDCES must receive real sanctions – C/R Minister
As part of the processes leading to the implementation of the 2025 Performance Management System (PMS) of the Local Government Service (LGS), the Central Regional Minister, Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah has emphatically stated that, “non performing MMDCEs must receive real sanctions”.
He noted that signing the contract was not enough and that sanctions would ensure that non performing MMDCEs did the job properly”.
Mr. Panyin Okyere Eduamoah made the statement, when all the 23 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) in the Central Region were engaged at the Central Regional Coordinating Council(CRCC) to sign the performance contract as part of measures aimed at strengthening accountability, improving service delivery and aligning district-level development with national priorities.
The Minister said he had adopted a strategy where he would be visiting Assemblies and work with them for two to three days to enable him experience the work of the assemblies.
“I will not pick phone and call MMDCEs to see whether they are working but as a Central Regional Minister, I will be there with them to work with them,” he revealed
Mr. Panyin Okyere Eduamoah urged the MDCEs to work closely with their Coordinating Directors, heads of departments and key stakeholders to promote teamwork, accountability, diligence and openness to move Ghana forward.
He tasked staff of MMDAs to talk politely to clients who pay property rate.
“If your attitude is annoying they will not even come and this has become a moral issue and not performance issue. I think we should sign moral contract and not performance contract,” he stated.
“Many of you as much as possible will be guided by the rules and regulations but there are things that will not be seen in the document, you must be first at work, for you to be able to perform better”, he concluded.
