Aboakyer Festival: MTN Ghana Renews commitment to supporting culture

MTN Ghana has affirmed its commitment to the Aboakyer Festival, celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional Area and has thus donated a cheque for GHC 20,000, GHC 1,000 worth of MTN airtime and a drink hamper to support the 2026 festival.

Making the presentation on behalf of MTN Ghana on Wednesday 29th April, 2026 in Winneba, MTN’s Senior Manager for the Southwest Business District, Prince Owusu Nyarko stated that “this year holds special meaning for MTN Ghana, as 2026 marks the 30th year of its operations”.

“Over the past three decades, MTN has evolved from providing basic voice services into a leading digital and connectivity partner, connecting people, empowering businesses, and supporting Ghana’s digital transformation”.

He noted that the Aboakyer Festival was more than an annual celebration.

Adding, the 30 years reign of the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII indicated a symbol of enduring leadership, peace, and the protection of tradition in a constantly evolving world.

“We are gathered here to support two important milestones.
First, the 2026 Aboakyir Festival, a proud symbol of identity, unity, and heritage, which continues to position Winneba as a key cultural destination in Ghana.
Secondly, we acknowledge the 30th Anniversary of the reign of His Majesty Neenyi Ghartey VII as the Effutu Oma Odefe, a remarkable testament to leadership, stability, and dedicated service to the people of Effutuland”, Mr Owusu Nyarko underscored.

He reiterated that MTN Ghana’s contribution to the festival emphasized its commitment to supporting culture, tradition, and community development, because “we firmly believe that progress is most meaningful when it is shared”.

“The alignment of MTN Ghana’s 30year journey with the 30year reign of His Majesty reminds us that institutions that endure are those that serve with purpose, consistency, and trust”, the Southwest Manager pointed out .

He further explained that the relationship between MTN Ghana and the Effutu Traditional Council had been built on mutual respect and collaboration.

“Winneba is not merely a place where we operate; it is a community we value, a culture we respect, and a partnership we are committed to sustaining”, Mr Owusu Nyarko concluded.

The Aboakyer festival is celebrated on the 1st Saturday of May by the Chiefs and people of Effutu Traditional Area in the Central Region of Ghana.

It is an ancient rite of animal sacrifice to the gods of the land.
