Story: GEORGINA APPIAH

The Head of Corporate Communications, MTN Ghana, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, addressing a National Youth Summit at the University of Cape Coast on Saturday (21st June, 2025) urged the youth to not be limited by their environment but broaden their horizons in their quest to make a difference in the world.
“There are a lot of restrictions and self checks in our minds, that nobody has placed on us. Who has told you that you cannot move from where you are and conquer more territories”? The MTN Head of Corporate Communications questioned.
Georgina Asare Fiagbenu gave the advice after taking the youth, who were mainly students through a “stretch scenario” to demonstrate how stepping out of one’s comfortable position could make a difference in a world of endless possibilities.
“Most of the time, our mind limits us because we are used to our circle. I’m supposed to stretch here. Why don’t you take the opportunity to say hello to someone? Why must you stretch at one place and not move a step”?
She encouraged young people to build on their skills and not to be too engrossed with Artificial Intelligence and its related applications that make working easy, indicating that their (the Youth) unique capabilities would take them far.
Madam Asare Fiagbenu emphasized on self awareness and advised the youth to know what they wanted and work towards achieving their goals.
The 2025 National Youth Mentorship Summit was organized by LEC Group in collaboration with MTN among other sponsors.
It was held on the theme; “Youth Preneur: A Catalyst for A New Economy”.
The MTN Head of Corporate Communications challenged the students to always get prepared for the task ahead.
“You travel with your skills. That’s why I keep asking what skills you are building. It could be communication skills, negotiation skills among others”.
Madam Asare Fiagbenu who was the Guest Speaker at the Youth Summit called on young people to be connected and sensitive to the environment to inform their decisions.
“Stretch your skills to be resourceful enough and think about what you can do with it. The people who are resourceful are the ones you always remember for job placement. That is how you get jobs ahead of your friends”, she advised.
The MTN Head of Corporate Communications urged students and the youth in general to step out and think outside the box and not to rely solely on their certificates.
”The skills you are building today is what you know. The knowledge can be acquired by anybody because everybody can just take a book, read and get informed”, she stressed.
