Cape Coast Police Arrest Man for Defrauding people with Canadian visa allegations

A man, who claimed to be one Dr. Patrick Nelson Ayittey, a worker at the Vice President of Ghana’s Office, and a Captain in the Ghana Armed Forces has been arrested by the police in Cape Coast.
According to the police, the suspect further asserted he had affiliations with the Canadian Embassy and collected GHS 5,325.00 and GHS 8,200.00 respectively from victims under the pretext of securing them Canadian Visas and work permits but failed to fulfill the promise and all efforts to refund the money were unsuccessful.
Briefing the media in Cape Coast, Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie of the Public Affairs Unit of the Central Regional Police Command, stated that “the Abura Police Station in Cape Coast received a report that between December, 2025, and January 2026, one Dr. Patrick Nelson Ayittey, who claimed to be a worker at the Vice President’s of Ghana’s Office, a Captain in the Ghana Armed Forces and also had affiliations with the Canadian Embassy had collected GHS 5,325.00 and GHS 8,200.00 respectively from victims under the pretext of securing them Canadian Visas and work permits but had failed and all efforts to refund the money have been unsuccessful”.
”Police Intelligence led to the suspects’ arrest in his hideout at Abura, Cape Coast”.
The police said a search conducted at the suspect’s residence revealed about 10 Ghanaian passports and other documents, including school certificates, birth certificates, and Ghana Cards.
“Further enquiries also revealed that the suspect is not a personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces as he claimed. He is also not a worker at the Vice President’s Office and has no affiliations with the Canadian Embassy and also not a medical doctor and does not have a doctorate degree”.
The police said the suspect’s real name is Patrick Nii Torto.
The suspect was subsequently arraigned before the Cape Coast Circuit Court, presided over by Her Worship Nana Aba Quiaba Nunoo and after court proceedings, was remanded into Police custody to assist police investigations in other similar cases made against him.
He is to reappear before the court on 3rd March, 2026.
The Police Command thus urged the public, especially those who had been defrauded by him or had any information on the suspect to contact the command on 18555 and 191.
