Cape Coast: Fatal Accident claims three lives, several others injured

Three persons were reported dead and several others injured, when a Yotung bus with registration number GW 6231-21, travelling from Takoradi to Accra with fifty-three passengers on board on Friday morning, fell on its side, trapping some passengers beneath the car.
According to information gathered from the Central Region branch of the Ghana National Fire Service, the accident occurred on the Residential Road Junction around the Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School.
“The rescue team from the regional headquarters and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station were dispatched to the accident scene to rescue casualties trapped, the Central Regional PRO for the GNFS, DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu disclosed.
“On arrival at the scene it was observed that a Yotung bus with registration number GW 6231-21 travelling from Takoradi to Accra and carrying 53 passengers had fallen on its side with some passengers trapped beneath the car. Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service with the help of the police and ambulance services were able to rescue all the casualties and were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care”.
He revealed that “three (3) persons were confirmed dead by the medical practitioners at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while the other casualties who had various degrees of injuries were receiving medical care”.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Out of the twenty-three victims receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, nine were treated and discharged.
