UCC Retains Position as Best University in Ghana in terms of Quality Education

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has for the fifth consecutive time retained its position as the best university in Ghana

The Institution is also the best in West Africa as contained in the 22nd edition of the World University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE).

Announcing the news to the media in Cape Coast, the Acting Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Denis Aheto reiterated that “UCC has consolidated its position as the topmost ranked university both in Ghana and West Africa, and 11th in Africa in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings”.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is regarded as one of the most prestigious global university rankings.

The 2026 version of the world university rankings comprises 2,191 institutions across 115 countries and territories.

Prof Aheto disclosed that “on the research quality pillar, UCC is number one in Ghana and West Africa. UCC has also maintained its position as one of the world’s leading research-intensive universities”.

The Acting Vice Chancellor observed that “with this streak of excellence spanning half a decade, the UCC has consistently demonstrated a sterling performance as a research-intensive university globally”.

Professor Denis Aheto therefore called on all stakeholders of UCC to persevere to fulfill the university’s core mandate of teaching, research and community outreach services

“All stakeholders must endeavour to work to ensure that UCC maintains its vision of being a globally acclaimed university for innovative teaching, research, outreach and professional development”, he stated.
